Cairo International Airport consists of two terminals located 2 miles/ 3 km apart and connected by a shuttle. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are also known as the Old Airport and the New Airport respectively. Many airlines operate from this facility and offer services to destinations across the world.

Previously, the airport's facilities were not sufficient to accommodate the large influx of international tourists into the region. For this reason, significant expansion and refurbishment has been recently undertaken. A third terminal opened in 2008 and offers expanded facilities and a doubled capacity.

Information kiosks are located throughout both terminals and in the Transit Hall. Passengers are not permitted to check-in more than an hour in advance, making shopping difficult, as most of the facilities are located beyond security checkpoints.


The Air Mall, a new shopping mall near Arrivals Hall 3 of Terminal 1, has recently opened. This facility not only caters for visitors and passengers, but to the general public as well.

Duty-free shops are located in the Departures and Arrivals areas of both terminals. Dining options include a bar, a café offering sandwiches and pastries, as well as a recently refurbished restaurant which features live piano music.

ATMs and banks are available throughout the facility and a 24-hour bureau de change in the Departures areas of both terminals, along with post office facilities. Business services are available at the nearby Novotel Cairo Airport Hotel and in Terminal 1, which is connected via escalator to the new Transit Hall.

Disabled passengers will find wheelchairs available and restroom facilities are wheelchair-friendly.
